Killorglin native Michael Daly and Ballyfinnane local Marguerite Hickey met as teenagers at Intermediate School Killorglin. As they passed each other in the school corridors little did they know that someday they would fall in love and get married… or maybe they did! College was the start of their romantic life together.

THE PROPOSAL
Michael’s romantic proposal took Marguerite by surprise, the couple were on a camping trip in Victoria, Australia when he got down on one knee on a quiet beach in Wilsons Promontory and Marguerite said yes! The engagement ring was chosen in a jewellery shop in Melbourne and the bride and groom-to-be were over the moon to start planning their big day.

The couple had their rustic Christmas themed wedding on December 17, 2016 at Jack’s Coastguard Restaurant, a spiritualist ceremony officiated by Amantha Murphy followed by a lavish reception where the bride and groom were surrounded by 120 of their closest friends and family.

THE WEDDING PARTY
Norma Lucey was Marguerite’s maid of honour while Teresa Daly Ryan and Lynda Collins were her stunning bridesmaids. Michael’s best man Brendan Daly was joined by his groomsmen Kevin Daly and Jody Riordan.

THE WEDDING TEAM
Marguerite stunned in a Nicole Spose gown from Diamond Bridal, Cork which was accessorised by an original headpiece by Cathy Troth and LK Bennett Shoes from Brown Thomas with silver clips from Rachel Simpson. The bridal party were dressed in pieces from ASOS and New Look as well as Accessorize. The groom and groomsmen were kitted out by Ryle Menswear Tralee. The fantastic Maura’s Cottage Flowers, Tralee provided the stunning floral arrangements and Marguerite created her own invites with the help of LoveByte Design.

The talented Teresa Daly Ryan did the girls’ makeup and their looks were finished off with fabulous hair-dos by Emma’s Salon, Tralee. Donal Moroney and Tom O’Sullivan from Killorglin performed the music for the ceremony and The Bansha Boys band played after the meal before they swapped places with DJ Barry McGrath who had the floor full well into the wee hours. Shane Turner Photography caught the day on camera and snapped the couple’s precious memories perfectly. The following day the newlyweds invited their guests back for some food and drinks at Towers Hotel Glenbeigh.

SPECIAL TOUCHES
The bride and groom used a unique tower cellar at their reception to house a super fun homemade Christmas themed photo booth.

FAVOURITE MEMORY
Marguerite’s favourite memory is one that a lot of bride’s cherish and such a special moment for any bride on her big day, “walking in with dad to see Michael waiting for me at the top of the aisle.”

THE HONEYMOON
Marguerite and Michael jetted off on the honeymoon of their dreams to Marrakech and Essaouria in Morocco, booked through Sol Travel Tralee.

ADVICE
Marguerite has some very handy tips for avoiding last minute changes to the big day, “Enjoy the early stages of planning. Make decisions and stick to them. Uninstall Pinterest and Instagram apps from your phone once you have decided on a theme to save yourself a lot of time.”

Can you tell us about working with Amantha from Spiritual Ceremonies?
“On our first meeting Amantha spent time with us chatting about our relationship, family and friends which was lovely. With all that goes with planning a wedding it was a great opportunity to reflect on what we mean to each other and why we wanted to get married. Amantha helped us tailor our wedding ceremony so that it was unique to us and allowed us to involve our nearest and dearest. Amantha and spiritual Ceremonies were extremely helpful in answering any questions or concerns we had. on the day she was wonderful and gently guided us throughout the ceremony.”

What was your shopping experience like at Diamond Bridal?
“The ladies there were so friendly and helpful and had some Prosecco for us on arrival to add to our excitement. it was very quick and i made a decision in probably 15 - 20 minutes to be honest and that was that. i didn’t want to spend months looking for a dress like you hear from other brides. i knew it was what i wanted when i tried it on. it was an excellent experience.”
