Gemma Reid, a native of Perth, Australia is a primary school teacher and Jamie Daly, is an Architectural Technologist who hails from Tralee.  London was the beautiful city where their love story began. They were both members of a dating website and after their first date fell in love fairly quickly. Their romance stood the test of time in London and more recently after their wedding they moved to Dubai.

Jamie popped the question in the romantic city of Rome and although it didn’t go quite as he had planned it was still wonderful. “We’d booked a trip to Rome during the Easter holidays. Jamie planned to propose at the Trevi Fountain but when we arrived it was covered in scaffolding and emptied of water. Instead, he got down on one knee in our beautiful boutique hotel room.” He presented to her a breathtaking engagement ring of white gold with a cushion cut centre diamond that he got through a good friend, Peter Fitzpatrick, in Dublin.

Gemma’s dress was by Sottero and Midgely. “I hadn’t dreamed of my wedding dress and went into a few shops with no clue what I wanted. My dress was on a mannequin in the shop and I just fell in love with its ethereal style and the gold undertone suited my skin tone.”

The happy couple tied the knot on March 26, 2016 at a charming and historic 12th century church in Godalming in Surrey, England. “From there our reception venue was 10 minutes away in the quaint village of Witley. A cricket pavilion was our blank canvas. We decided not to go for a hotel reception as, I particularly, wanted a venue where I could put my stamp and make the decorations personal to us. It was a real family effort! Jamie’s Dad brought over cabling from Ireland to make our festoon lighting and my Maid of Honour and I spent many an evening crafting. It all came together on the day and we couldn’t have been happier with how the space was transformed.”

All of the day’s precious moments were captured on camera by Photography by Krishanthi - Krish and Joey, a husband and wife photography team. “After a friend hired a husband and wife photographer, we really liked the idea. This way, we didn’t miss a moment as Krish stayed with the girls in the morning as we got ready and Joey went to the boys (in the pub) as they ‘got ready’. It was so nice to be able to see the groom’s preparations, which you just don’t see normally.” The happy couple danced the night away with their friends and family to a one-man band, Mike Gill, who often performs at their local pub. The guests were “blown away” by his talent!

THE WEDDING PARTY
One of Gemma’s old friends from school, Nicola Upfield was her bridesmaid along with her sister in law Sharlene Reid. Her maid of honour was her best friend Tamlyn Weston. Jamie’s brother Eric and Bryan Daly were his groomsmen and his bestman was his best friend Philip Byrne.

SPECIAL TOUCHES
“I don’t think we particularly had a theme but I wanted to make everything personal to us. For the pew ends, I made paper roses out of old maps of Ireland to bring a bit of Ireland to England. Also, our table numbers were all numbers that were important to us such as, table 15a, our house number and table 859, how many days we had been together.”

FAVOURITE MEMORY
“I loved the drive from the church to the reception in our Rolls Royce. The driver popped us a bottle of champagne and we sipped and talked the whole way. Our driver even pulled over for a few minutes to give us some more time.”

THE HONEYMOON
“As a once in a lifetime holiday, we tried to tick of lots of our bucket list. We spent a week in Mauritius followed by two nights in La Reunion, where we took a helicopter flight over their active volcanoes. On the way home we stopped off in Dubai where we had a sunrise hot air balloon ride over the desert. It was the best two weeks of our life!”

BRIDES ADVICE
“You’ll never regret the money you spend on a good photographer. After all is said and done and the day is a distant memory all you will have left is the photos.”
