Slay your skin

Slay your skin

By Michaela Keating

Every bride’s goal is to have flawless skin on her wedding day but all good things take time, so investing in a good skincare regime from day one is the key to the perfect bridal look. We’ve got some tips to help you wake up Beyoncé style on your big day, Flawless!

First things first, if you don’t already know, you need to assess what skin type you have. Each skin type; oily, dry, combination and so on, require different products to achieve a dewy look whilst nourishing your skin appropriately. Make an appointment with your local beauty therapist or facialist for help on what products will give you that bridal glow.

H2O
You’ve heard this before because it’s true; drink water and lots of it! The benefits of water are endless and the most essential element of your pre- wedding beauty regime. No matter what you put on your skin on the outside, it’s what goes into your body that has a real effect on your skin and its glow. Invest in a large re-fillable water bottle to keep at your desk or in your handbag each day to make sure you are consuming two litres or so throughout the day.

Less of the goodies
On the subject of what to drink, what to eat is equally important. If you are partial to the odd Wispa at night, try swapping it with a bowl of fruit a few months before the big day. It may seem like a harsh substitute but along with improving your skin by reducing your sugar intake, you’ll also have oodles of energy for all the planning by making a little change in your diet. Try preparing your meals and snack as much as possible to cut down those low energy dashes to the vending machine for a cheeky packet of crisps; we see you!

SPF
You may think we have lost the plot with this one, but sun or no sun, protecting your skin is a dialy necessity. Even though we may not be blessed with weeks of tropical weather each summer, the sun’s rays still have a way of peeking through the clouds and have the ability to damage you skin in the long run.  Wearing SPF daily can help you keep your youthful look for longer. Most foundations and moisturisers have some sort of sun protection factor so just take note of what’s in your make up bag and work it into your daily skincare regime.  Don’t forget your lips too, keep that lip balm at the ready to avoid unsightly cracked lips.

Eye spy
Eye cream is recommended almost as soon as you start into your twenties, so in wedding prep the stuff is essential. Using eye cream daily will help to reduce the signs of crow’s feet and give you a younger looking complexion and avoids ageing around the eyes. This small investment will make sure your skin is ready for some fabulous make up close ups on the day.

Moisturise
For many of us, a hop in the shower and a blast of the hairdryer can be about all we can fit into our daily routine. However, it’s vital to get that sin of your looking baby smooth and feeling super soft. If you’re a busy bride to be, invest in a moisturiser suitable for your skin type and keep it in the bathroom where you keep all the products you use daily. This will encourage you to lash it on, even on days you’re in a hurry.

Clean your brushes
Make up brushes can harbour bacteria so take time to clean them every so often. This will help to keep brushes you use on your face germ free and let’s face it, you’ll feel like you have got your life together all round!
