Keep the romance alive

Keep the romance alive

By Niamh Bartley

Planning a wedding can be very stressful, but it’s important not to let your relationship take a backseat while you’re doing it. We have put together some great date ideas for newlywed couples to keep the romance alive after the big day is over.

Learn something new
Nothing brings two people closer than a joint hobby, especially one that they learned together. Take a cookery class or pick up a musical instrument together. It can be fun seeing what strengths you both have that you didn’t know about and it can bring about some healthy competition for the competitive couple.

Read your guestbook
This one is pretty simple, have a quiet evening in together, maybe play some romantic music, crack open a bottle of wine and set yourselves down on the couch to go through your guestbook page by page. You’ll get a good laugh out of all the funny remarks and comments left by your guests and you might even pick up one or two pieces of advice from those married longer than you have been. This is a great way to connect and reminisce with your new husband about everyone who came, all the craic that was had and basically everything that happened on the day of your wedding.

Bring it all back
Where did it all begin? Bring your love back to the scene of the crime, where you first met or where you had your first date, depending on which is more romantic. Recreating your first date is a great way to reminisce about everything that’s happened in the time that’s gone by and to remember how googly eyed you were for each other way back when.

Try different cuisines
This is also about broadening your horizons, but it’s a lot less expensive than taking a trip. If you always have Chinese on takeaway night, why not switch it up and try something a bit more exciting. Having new experiences together will bring you closer as a couple and you can have a bit of fun finding your new favourite takeaway over a couple of months.
